Harkavy, Alexander

Harkavy, Alexander
   American Yiddish lexicographer and writer. He was born in Belorussia and emigrated to the US in 1881. He first joined a collective agricultural colony, but after it failed he lived in numerous cities, including Paris, New York, Montreal and Baltimore. He published textbooks and dictionaries for immigrants, including the Yiddish-English-Hebrew Dictionary.
